ARGAN

The argan (Argania spinosa) is a tree native to southwestern Morocco. Adapted to arid climates, it is characterized by thorny branches, small dark green leaves, and round to oval fruits. Inside the greenish yellow fruit is a hard walnut-sized seed containing oil-rich kernels.

The oil derived from the kernels is highly esteemed for its cosmetic properties. Rich in fatty acids and antioxidants, argan oil is commonly used to moisturize and nourish the skin and hair. It is also a popular culinary ingredient in Moroccan cuisine, where it has a nutty flavor.

Despite its benefits, argan oil can be difficult to source as the harvesting and extraction processes are labor-intensive. Furthermore, the tree is considered vulnerable due to habitat loss and overexploitation in recent years.
